Now we've come to one of the biggest turning points in the whole Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. This is easily one of the biggest changes in the whole story. And when I say that, I mean this game added so many things that added so much to the story and had us asking so many things. It was also a really interesting game. Especially since it was a prequel to the whole series. It was exploring the lives of three characters in the time Sora, Riku and Kairi were still just little kids. And so, before I get into the really big stuff, let's go over the story. What's the story? Actually, the opening of this game kinda tells us the story already. And speaking of the opening, this game's opening is again, really awesome.
And the story is about three people, Ventus (or Ven for short), Aqua and Terra who are students to a man named Eraqus. On the day of Aqua and Terra's Mark of Mastery exam a man named Xehanort interrupts the exam which causes Terra to show the darkness inside him. And this causes him to lose the exam while Aqua is named a Keyblade master. And this kinda creates a divide between the three friends. And to make things worse, it seem Xehanort and a mysterious masked guy are trying to break the friends apart and make them leave and they succeed. Terra goes to find Xehanort and fight the darkness inside himself. Ven leaves to find Terra and warn him about something the masked guy told him. And Aqua leaves to not only find Ven and bring him back, but also to help Terra and defeat these creatures which are not called Heartless, they're called the Unversed. And the game is split into three parts where you play as one of the three characters and play their stories. Ven's, Aqua's and Terra's. And, yeah, that's where I'm going to stop again. So, what do I think of this game and do I think it's as good as say the Kingdom Hearts 2? No, it's not, but still, it's another really solid game. I did a ranking of all the Kingdom Hearts games a while back and I still standby where I put this on that list. And a lot of the good things in this are the characters and the gameplay. Firstly the gameplay. The combat in this game feels a lot more improved than in 358/2 Days. Not as much as Kingdom Hearts 2, but still, really well done here. And the action, especially against the giant Unversed, is awesome. The final fights, and even the final fights against the Disney villains, were also really cool. Especially when you're fighting Captain Hook and Maleficent. Those fights were awesome. The story as well is cool when you were going around and meeting the many different Disney characters. And that brings us to the best part which is of course the characters. They're not the best in the whole series, but the ones that stand out, stand out really fantastically. My favourite one out of all of them is probably Ven. He's just so likeable and sympathetic. And apparently he doesn't remember his past before he went to train with Eraqus. And this is what he looks like.
The reason I'm showing him to all of you is kind of a spoiler but I just want to tell anyway. So the reason is because he looks like Roxas. And the reason he looks like Roxas is because at the end of this game, there's a secret ending after the secret story where Sora talks to Ven as a little boy and he allows him to stay in his heart after it vanishes from destroying the X-Blade. If you want to know what I'm talking about go play the game for yourself. Anyway, so remember in Kingdom Hearts 1 when Sora sacrificed himself for Kairi by releasing his heart? Well, when he did that, he also kinda released Ven's heart and by releasing his own and Ven's heart at once, that's what caused Roxas to look like Ven. Sorry for making that sound kinda confusing, but like I said, play the game to know what I'm talking about. Anyway, yeah, Ven's my favourite character in this game. But the others are great too like Aqua, Terra, all of those. And it was cool to finally see the main villain of this entire series with Xehanort. We never really knew who he was originally, but here, we do and we know what his goal is. And he's a fantastic and very devious and cunning villain. And Aqua's story is also great when we see her go through all of this and then at the end, she's the only one of the three of them who isn't really corrupted by Xehanort. That's kinda strange, but I think that's the best way to say it. But's it kinda sad during the secret ending when she falls into darkness to save Terra. In fact, that whole thing with her being in the Realm of Darkness is exactly what 0.2 in 2.8 is going to be centred around. And the whole thing with Terra is also really good. I'm not entirely sure what people think of him, but I think my brother said he didn't like him because of what happens in the end of this game, but I personally do like him. And like I was saying a second ago, this game is during the time Sora, Riku and Kairi were still kids and so seeing them again is awesome to me.
And by the way, remember in that scene there when Kairi touched Aqua's Keyblade? Apparently when that happened, Aqua accidently performed Keyblade ceremony on her and that's what allows Kairi to wield a Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts 2. Kind of a spoiler there, but yeah, Kairi actually has a Keyblade, which is really cool. And, get this, remember when I said Ven's heart was inside Sora. Well, this is how.
And that's actually the reason why Sora can wield the Keyblade too. I'll explain more about it when we get to Dream Drop Distance. But yeah, seeing those three again is really awesome. And you get to see them in all of the new character's stories near the end except Ven. But that comes in at the end. And speaking of the end, this game's ending is so dark. This game's ending isn't even a happy one. I'll just say it. So Ven loses his heart because he destroyed the X-Blade which was made of his heart which causes his body to be sleeping and that's what it's been doing this whole time. Aqua get's trapped in the Realm of Darkness trying to save Terra in the secret ending and Terra gets his body stolen by Xehanort. And Aqua's been in the Realm of Darkness, in regards to when 0.2 picks up, for about ten years. That's beyond scary if you ask me. And remember when I said Ven's body was asleep. Well it's actually at the Land of Departure, which is what their home was called, but Aqua used Eraqus's Keyblade to turn the land into Castle Oblivion. That's really cool. Now we know where Castle Oblivion came from. And the reason the Organisation members were in the castle in Chain of Memories was because Xemnas wanted to find Ven's body. That's pretty cool with the way they tied that together. And everything in this game that has a bit of a tie in to the others, while you might think it's forced, I think is awesome and really helps push the story forward, especially with what will be coming up soon. The music in this game is also fantastic again. My favourite in the whole game is probably Ven's theme. Listen to some of these.
And the direction is also really good here. Tetsuya Nomura is my favourite director because of this game series. He's directed every single Kingdom Hearts game and he's amazing. He totally knows what he's doing when he works on these games and this is no exception. And it always amazing me how awesome and cool the action in these games always seemed really creative. And the action in this is awesome. Especially when you fill up the gauge above your command attack board and you get even more power for a final attack. Now, as much as I do really love this game like all the others, it's not perfect. If I had to nit-pick some things, some of the bosses are kinda unfair, especially the secret bosses. I know they're supposed to be kinda hard, but come on, this is just insane. Especially the Mysterious Figure at the Land of Departure. I've never been able to beat him. He's probably the hardest fight in the whole series in my opinion. And the whole scene with all of them at the beginning is also great and when they all say that thing in their heads, I love it. When they say "That would be the last night we ever spent beneath the same stars." And that secret ending is beyond awesome. Look.
So overall, this is another amazing Kingdom Hearts game. And I can't wait to see how 0.2 continues it. And everyone, that's my review of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. So after the amazingness of Kingdom Heats 2, Square Enix had to make a follow up that was just as good. I mean, I'm talking about a follow up to Kingdom Hearts 2. The video game sequel that was praised by everyone and even won a ton of awards like best video game of the year, best video game sequel and best video game story. And did this game succeed in being a good follow up? Uh... sorta. Is it as good as Kingdom Hearts 2? No. Is it as good as the first Kingdom Hearts? No. But's still another great Kingdom Hearts game... kinda. To be honest, this is probably the lowest of all the Kingdom Hearts games because it does have a fair amount of problems. I hate to say that, but yeah, this game does have noticeable flaws. But, before I talk about that, let's go over the story first. What's the story? Again, there's another amazing opening that shows the Organisation and some info about them all.
It takes place during the time Sora was asleep inside the pod to get his memories fixed. While that's going on, the story really focuses on Roxas, Sora's Nobody. And it follows him through one year of being around and being with the Organisation. The story is about him going around doing missions. But also introducing a new member to the Organisation as number XIV and her name is Xion. Though something is going on with her. At first she always has her hood up and you don't see what she looks like but then one day she does take her hood down and she looks like Kairi except with black hair instead of red. She's also getting strange flashes in her head about Sora. No one except a fair few know what's going on. Roxas and Axel befriend her and they start hanging out, but as more days pass, more things are revealed and more things are jeopardizing their connections. And the missions they're doing are to mainly collect hearts for Kingdom Hearts, which is what they're after if you know what went on in Kingdom Hearts 2. And, apparently, the reason these things are happening to Xion is because some of Sora's memories are inside of her when his memories were scattered. And, I'm going to stop there. So first off, I'm going to go over some of those flaws I mentioned about a second ago. First off, everything in this game is a mission. And some of them are really good and some of them are really bad. I would say the worst kind of missions here are the recon ones where you have to do a lot of things and remember a bunch of things and gather a lot of information and other things like that and answer a lot of questions from other characters. And that can be either very difficult and really annoying. I'm not the only one saying that. Some other people say the same thing. We all agree on the same thing there. I would say though that that really only happens at the beginning of the game in Twilight Town and it does happen in other worlds throughout the game, but it's mostly in the beginning. Another is some of the bosses. Some of the bosses here are some of the most despised in the series. For example there's Leechgrave which is the most despised because it's so strong and hard to beat and unfair.
I have beaten it a lot since I first did, but that's really because I'm on a high level and that kinda helps, but it is definetly a really unfair boss. Another is Ruler of the Sky, which is the longest to beat in the whole series because he flies around all the time and you can barely hit him at all.
And by the time he stops flying, you can only hit him so little because he sends so many attacks at you. And the worst one in my opinion is Dustflyer.
I hate this thing. He so strong and he has so much health. You can barely attack him and he has so many strong attacks that can kill you really fast. And that meteor attack he has always annoys me. Another problem I have is some of the gameplay. Sometimes it can be good and cool and fun to use, especially the Limit attack. But then it can get kinda wonky and weird and hard to use. A lot of the Heartless are also very stupid and hard. Especially the Emerald Serenade Heartless, which does nothing, and I mean nothing but fly around and you can only hit him twice before he gets away from you again really fast and he usually has so much health. You will have to spend so much time on this Heartless. And especially when there's a ton of them. There's not a lot of them at once, but when it's there and you have it fight it in a big place like Wonderland where it can go everywhere and you can barely catch it, is beyond annoying. Also there were a few issues in the plot that either didn't need to be there or didn't make any sense. And some of the character's motivations aren't very good either. But, with all those problems out of the way, let's get to the good stuff. While I said that some of the gameplay isn't great, most of it is and most of the bosses are really good. Especially against Xion and Riku at the end. That was amazing. Speaking of the ending, it was cool to see Roxas with the Oblivion and Oathkeeper Keyblades and using them for a few seconds. And the story is mostly really interesting and very creative. And when you're able to go back to the missions previously, it's great to go and collect all the things you weren't able to before and complete it the whole way. The worlds are well are great too. While they are from Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, they're still good and a lot of things you have to do at these worlds are pretty interesting. Especially the part with the don't get spotted parts where you can't let yourself be seen by a character from that world. And the whole dynamic with a lot of the characters is pretty good too. Especially during the ending when Roxas is being torn apart with having to face the truth of what's going on with Xion. And I like how there is a real friendship between him, Xion and Axel. I think the three of them work well with each other. And the whole thing with Roxas also having to look for her for a few days is cool too. And the characters themselves, while not at the best here, are still good. Roxas, while a bit too naïve, is pretty good. Xion is a nice new edition and pretty sympathetic. And Axel is of course always great. You all already saw what he did in Kingdom Hearts 2 with wanting to see Roxas again and here it's shown really well why. I also like the conflict that Xion is in because she has a choice of going back to Sora and having the memories in her be given back to him. It seems very interesting and I thought it worked. Especially the scene with her and Riku on Destiny Island talking about it.
I really like that scene because it explains so much and makes it interesting. And like I said before, the whole scene where Xion dies is really sad. Maybe the saddest moment in the whole series. Watch.
That always gets to me. And I kinda like how we understand what happened during that one year Sora, Donald and Goofy were asleep. I thought it was nice to know what happened. And the storyline of how we get there is mostly good. I actually recently got all the specials in the game and I unlocked Sora as a playable character in the Missions choice where you can play as the Organisation members or Riku or Donald or Goody or King Mickey or Sora and I recently unlocked Sora. That whole Mission thing is also great in my opinion and seeing the whole cinema thing where you can rewatch the cutscenes was really cool and rewatching them while learning other things in the game is also interesting. I actually only really finished it a couple of years ago because I was stuck on one thing and I realised I could do one thing and that helped a lot. So in the end, I really like and enjoy Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. It's not perfect, but it's still another great Kingdom Hearts game if you take away some of the fighting parts. And while there are some other flaws too I'm sure, it doesn't take away the fact that I really enjoy this. And yeah, that's my review of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. So this was released today. A new trailer for Iron Fist. This trailer has gotten me a whole lot more excited for it. It finally shows us the villain of the show and some more of the story. It also shows Claire with Danny. I thought it was awesome to see her again. And honestly, I'm a lot more excited for this show, although, it's starting to remind me a bit of the first Iron Man movie because it shows that a person at the Rand company isn't happy with Danny being back because it looks like he had the company but now that he's back, he wants to kill him to keep it. I think there's going to be two villains because of what we see here. I think the second villain is going to be Gao from Daredevil. I'm about 99% sure about that. But yeah, here's the trailer and I hope you all like it and I can't wait for the first Defenders trailer to come out.
Another thing that was released at the Super Bowl was a extended clip thing for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This movie is looking better with every new thing that keeps coming out about it and this is making it look so spectacular and hilarious. Which is weird because have you noticed that everything that's going on so far have been getting people really excited but we still don't know anything about the story or villain? I just hope they can keep this up. And yeah, this is what was shown yesterday. Here it is and I hope you all like it.
So yesterday for the Super Bowl, a ton of stuff in comic book stuff was released and one of these things was a small clip for Logan which will be out in less than a month. And so, here it is and I hope you all like it.
And so everyone, we're here. One of the most perfect things ever to me and the best thing to spend your time with and the best video game of all time as of right now in my opinion, Kingdom Hearts 2. Yeah, we're here. This is the kind of game that aren't around much anymore. If you want to hear my opinion and ask me what I think the best video game of all time is for now, I would definetly say this. It's by far the best game I've ever played, it surpasses the original game in every way imaginable and it is as perfect as anything could possibly be. I love every tiny thing in this game. Everything in it, the action, visuals, scale, worlds, designs, characters, story, music, bosses. Literally everything in this, I love so much. Okay, before I get ahead of myself, let's start with the story. What's the story? It once again opens with that opening credit sequence. These Kingdom Hearts games always have fantastic openings. But this one's my favourite. The song is perfect, so are the visuals and everything. I listen to it on my iPod all the time.
So you're started off by playing as this character named Roxas in a town called Twilight Town with his friends, Hayner, Pence and Ollete. And the opening is showing this guy and showing that something's not right with him and there are these things bothering him. White creatures are appearing all over the place, people he never knew before are showing up and talking about stuff he doesn't know about and his life is acting weird. And it has something to do with Sora. Who's somewhere. Even a man named Axel is showing up and talking to Roxas like he's known him before but Roxas has no idea what he's talking about. But after about 6 days, Roxas realises what's going on. He was part of the Organisation with the black coats. Anyway, Roxas makes it to Sora in the pod he was in at the end of Chain of Memories. And so he wakes up and we get a funny scene of him, Donald and Goofy reuniting. That's something that I haven't mentioned yet. This series is funny. Like, really funny. Every game has some really hilarious scene like in the first game, Sora does this...

Anyway, they leave the mansion they're in and go around. They find Hayner, Pence and Ollete, who here, have no idea who Roxas is, and they tell them that King Mickey is looking for them. They go to find them but when they do, he just gives them a pouch with money in it so they can get on a train and go to his master named Master Yen Sid. They also fight the white creatures too. So they go to Yen Sid's tower and find a guy named Pete who's apparently controlling the Heartless. The three of them go inside the tower and get a lot of news from Yen Sid. Apparently the white creatures and the people in black coats are called Nobodies and the people in black coats are part of a group called Organisation XIII and he explains that they apparently don't have hearts and don't really exist at all. And having Sora defeat Heartless and release hearts is what they're after. They talk some more and Sora even gets new clothes from the fairies from Sleeping Beauty. They even give him a new power called Drive Form. And I love his new suit. It's my favourite clothing in the series. Maybe ever. It looks so cool.
You all already know I have this costume for real and it's my favourite thing to wear and I always wear it when ever I'm playing any of the big Kingdom Hearts games like 1, 2 and some others.
And I always act like I'm a character one of Sora's friends from the island who also got a Keyblade and I'm there and when someone refers to Sora in anyway, I like to say them or the four of them or my own name and stuff like that. I don't care if that makes me sound really weird. I just do that and I love it. Anyway, so Sora, Donald and Goofy leave but then Maleficent comes back to life because of the power of the memories from the fairies.
And then Sora, Donald and Goofy begin going around many worlds again, both old and new. And, while that's happening, there's a lot of other things happening too. And, that's where I'm going to stop. There's so many things that happen in this game I just can't say all of them. So, yeah. This game is literally flawless to me. There are so many amazing things in this game, I barely know where to start. Well firstly, like I said, this game surpasses the first game in every way. Really everything that was amazing in the first game, this game makes a billion times better. The story is so interesting and so creative, even though some people have said they think it's complicated but since I've played all the games a million times, I can easily follow it. The action is so much better. I mean seriously, Sora is insane in this game. He is so strong and as you level up more and more, you get even more powerful. The reaction commands are also fantastic and fun. As well as the different Limit attacks you can use. And another thing to note, this game is long. Like really long. There are so many things in this game and it's so long. This game also has the most worlds in it too. And the bosses are also incredible. There's not one in here I don't like. They're all awesome, fun and great to do. I especially like this game better in the 2.5 version where there's more to do and more to explore and more bosses to fight. That game also has Limit Form too. But, of course, let's get the best part of the whole game and the series, the characters and story. The characters here and the best I've ever seen them. Same with some of their new designs. Same with the cast. This is the best I've seen them too. This game has my favourite Sora voice from Hayley Joel Osment and the everything associated with Sora in this is perfect. Even the cast themselves were very happy with how this game was done. Watch this.
And the fact that Hayley Joel Osment may or may not be my favourite actor right now because of this is really something to me. This game also has the most epic parts in the entire series and most interesting parts. Like for the epic parts, this game has that 1000 Heartless fight and the whole fight for Hollow Bastian, (that whole thing is incredible as well), the whole conspiracy with the M.C.P the third time you go to Hollow Bastian, the final bosses of every world and many more. I especially love this scene where Axel explains what's going on.
This game is also huge. In all the Kingdom Hearts games the worlds seem a little small because the camera was kinda close up on Sora, but here it looks massive. This entire game and it's worlds look humongous. There's also better space battles. That was one thing I didn't entirely like about the first game. The gummi ship fights and you had to do that a lot but here it's better. They're all really fun and you don't have to do them all the time. You didn't really have to do them all the time in the first game, but you did have to do them quite a few times before you got the warp drive. The music is of course amazing and the songs as well. Yoko Shimomura is my favourite composer ever. She's just fantastic. Her music in this is of course still fantastic like in all the Kingdom Hearts games. Listen to some of these.
She is so talented and I love all the music in this series and this game in particular. This game's ending is also perfect. You see everyone return to where they belong and it's so satisfying and it makes you so happy but then there's the after credit scene. Yeah, every Kingdom Hearts game has an after credit scene and some of them have a secret ending scene or something after you finish the game. This is this game has an after credit scene which is kind of a set up for Dream Drop Distance.
Another thing that was awesome about this game was that you can actually play as King Mickey. Sometimes if you die, the screen goes white and there are two options, I give up and I won't give up. If you click onto I won't give up, you actually play as King Mickey and that is beyond cool. You get to fight as him and build up power to heal Sora again. That was so amazing. Also, the introduction to the Organisation was fantastic as well. I know they were introduced in Chain of Memories, but we didn't know who they really were there. Here, they're great. I know we do know who they truly are in Dream Drop Distance, but still. Every single one of them that were introduced here were awesome. Especially Axel. I love Axel. He's awesome and funny. And his sacrifice was so sad.
This game also has so many places to go and things to do there. And going around these worlds and exploring and seeing these various place is so amazing. The transformations were also awesome, say for the whole Atlantica thing again and, yeah, that whole singing thing is pretty weird, but I don't really hate it. Even though it's kinda ridiculous, it's still undeniably really fun and pretty hilarious. But I kinda enjoy it. I mean, the best part of that world is Haley Joel Osment. You know, he's great as Sora. You buy him as the character he gives emotion to what he doing and his singing voice is really, really great in my opinion. I think he's an amazing singer in this. Here's an example.
And that's not a problem for me. The game's animation is also a lot better. While it may seem similar to the first, I think it looks better. Same with the character designs. I already mentioned how I love Sora's redesign. That's my favourite Sora design. But also the others like Kairi, Riku, Leon, Yuffie, Cloud, all of them. They're much better in my opinion. The worlds also look better too. I'm talking about the worlds that returned from the first game like Hollow Bastian, Olympus Coliseum, Atlantica, Halloween Town, Agrabah, the 100 Acre Wood, all of them and all the new ones are fanatastic too. The Pride Lands, Port Royal, Disney Castle, Beast's Castle, the Land of Dragons, Twilight Town, the World that Never Was. Every single one of them. And every time you go to a world from the last game, it feels so good and so happy to see Sora, Donald and Goofy reunite with their friends from that world. This game also had fantastic secret bosses too. Especially Sephiroth. Cloud and Sephiroth are great in this game too and the fight between them is fantastic and when you have to fight him, that's also great, though very hard. But still, it's fantastic. Even the things in the Coliseum are fantastic with the many cups and rounds and the different tournaments. Guys, I really don't know what else to say. This is just the perfect thing ever and is the best thing to do in my time. Everything in it I think is perfect. Not one thing could have been done better in my opinion. It's just the perfectly made thing ever. I can easily give it a 10/10 if anyone asked. And for a game like this to be this amazing, I hope Kingdom Heart 3 is a billion times better when it comes out. Continuing my series of Kingdom Hearts game reviews leading up to 2.8 is Chain of Memories. The game that picked up right where the first one left off. This was first released on the Game Boy in 2004 so this review will be counting the original Game Boy game as well as Re Chain of Memories. And yeah, this game is another great Kingdom Hearts game. Though it's not as good as the first one. But still, it's really great. Well at least the story is anyway. So let's start with that. What's the story? It opens up again with an awesome opening credits sequence.
And then we see Sora, Donald and Goofy resting in a field after chasing Pluto trying to find Riku and King Mickey. They then arrive at a castle called Castle Oblivion. There they meet people in black cloaks and they're starting to lose their memories. They begin to go further into the castle and going through almost every world they were in in Kingdom Hearts 1 in the rooms. And as they're going further, Sora is forgetting about Kairi and remembering fake memories about a girl named Naminé who's actually the one doing this to him. And while that's going on, Riku is also in the castle going further through it too trying to fight the darkness inside him. And the people in black cloaks are trying to use Naminé to turn Sora into their puppet by taking his memories apart so they can overthrow the organisation. There's also another fake Riku attacking Sora saying he's going to protect Naminé but he's just a fake one that Vexen created. And I'm going to stop there. Just like the first game, this game add so many things into it, old and new, and made it incredible. Though, like I said, it's not as good as the first. And the first negative I have with this is the mechanics here. This game requires you to use cards to fights. It can be an attack card or magic or summon or item and that's how you do things in this.
And that can get annoying. Especially when you can run out and you have to reload with a timer on it and when you do get the cards reloaded, you have less than you had originally and it gets smaller and smaller the more you reload it. Thankfully it's a little different and better when you're playing as Riku, but yeah, still that is pretty annoying and you really have to think when using the cards. When you're playing as Sora, you can put the cards in yourself but it costs points to put more numbered ones in and the higher the number on it is, the more points it'll cost and you really have to be careful that you're opponent doesn't break the card number you have. But that's really the only flaw I have. Other than that, this game's story is again fantastic and amazingly original. And you really sympathise with a lot of the characters with what they're going through with Sora, Donald and Goofy (and technically Jiminy too) losing their memories, Naminé being forced to do this to them and Riku having to deal with the darkness and Ansem that're trying to get at him. And the graphics are also still amazing. That was something I forgot to mention about the first game, how amazing these graphics are. And, yeah, they absolutely are. Literally the best I've ever seen in a video game, (and I'm sure when Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out, that'll have the best graphics ever.) And the characters themselves are still lovable. Say for that one scene where Sora was being pretty mean to Donald, Goofy and Jiminy. That was a little too mean and too out of character in my opinion. This game also has a totally bitter sweet ending where Sora chooses to forget everything about the castle, including Naminé so he can get his old memoires back. But at least you understand why.
And I this is the game where I started to love Riku. In the first game I thought he was too mean with turning to the darkness and being a jerk to Sora. I still liked him, especially with the ending where he helps to close the door. But here I absolutely love him like everyone else. And the villains in this are awesome. Marluxia, Vexen, Zexion, Lexaeus. But the best and the most despicable in the whole game is Larxene. She is so despicable with her constantly taunting Sora about Naminé, always teasing him and she even threatens to smash the good luck charm that he thinks Naminé gave to him, but it's really the one Kairi gave him at the end of the first game. She just so horrible and mean 100% of the time and you absolutely hate her. That is fantastic. In the end, this game isn't as good as the first game because of the gameplay and some of the out of character scenes like when Sora yells at Donald and Goofy, but I do still love this game and I think it's fantastic and the journey is still amazing, same with the voice cast, they're of course still amazing. And the bosses, while some are so hard, I'm not kidding, it literally took me almost 5 or so years just to beat Marluxia the first time on the Game Boy. I promise, it was that hard. But still, the bosses are mainly good. And it's a great game again and I love playing it a lot. And that's my review for Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. So here I'm going to be reviewing every single Kingdom Hearts game leading up to 2.8. I've already talked about Kingdom Hearts a million times but I think I should review every single game and give more info about each game. I mean I'm doing review for arguably my favourite thing ever, (or so to speak), and so now we're gonna start with the one that started it all. I think I'm going to do these reviews like how I do movie reviews. I already did a review for Kingdom Hearts: Union X and when it finishes, I'll do a part 2 to that review. And so, let's begin with Kingdom Hearts 1. This game was a ginormous surprise back in 2002 when it was coming out. I heard a lot of people thought it was going to be a terrible game with the idea of transferring Final Fantasy with Disney. I've heard people say that a bunch of times on YouTube. But thankfully this game surprised everyone in how absolutely incredible it was. It actually did help to change a few things in the gaming industry as I've heard and helped some other people in other places at companies too. And even besides that, it's also just an absolutely outstanding game. So firstly the story of this first game. What's the story? Firstly it has that awesome opening with that amazing song and visuals.
It then really opens up where you're Sora and you're fighting Heartless but it turns out to be a dream and he's really on an island with his friends Riku and Kairi. The three of them are making a raft to go out and see other worlds. Somewhere else, at a place called Disney Castle, King Mickey has vanished and told Donald and Goofy to find "the key" and follow the one who has it. And at the same time, on the night before Sora, Riku and Kairi were going to take the raft out, a storm appears above Destiny Island and engulfs it and takes the three of them away. Before that, Sora gets a mystical weapon called the Keyblade. He then ends up in a place called Traverse Town where he meets Donald and Goofy and some Final Fantasy characters like Leon, Cid, Yuffie and Aerith. He, Donald and Goofy also fight creatures called Heartless. And we also find out a ton of Disney villains are gathered and are making a plan.
Anyway, Sora, Donald and Goofy then go off to many different Disney worlds and defeat countless Heartless as well as Disney villains and befriending a ton of people while also trying to find Riku, Kairi, the King and trying to figure out what's going on. And that's where I'm going to stop. Firstly, I'll talk about the gameplay. The combat in this game is extremely creative. Especially for back then and it's beyond unique and creative. There's also a ton of things to do besides the main story like collecting all the treasure chests and finding all the Dalmatian puppies. It's also fun at the colloseum where you fight different Heartless and bosses. And it's amazing to fight some of the huge bosses like Hades, the Ice Titan, the Rock Titan and of course, Sephiroth. There's also a variety of Keyblades too to get. Not just the ones you get from finishing a world, but also the ones you get from finishing mini-games as well and a whole bunch of summons you can get to help you like Simba, Mushu, Dumbo, Bambi and others. The world designs are also incredible and very close to exactly accurate to the way they were in the Disney movies and the new worlds are just as amazing to look at. But let's get down to what really makes this game series so amazing and perfect, the story and characters. The story here is incredible. Super creative, easy to follow and it makes you want to follow it more and more. But let's really get to the best part, the characters and cast. These characters, especially Sora, are the best cast of characters I've ever seen in anything. And that counts for the entire series. They're just absolutely fantastic. Same with the cast. I know a lot of you are probably going to disagree with me when I say this, but I don't think there's ever been a better voice cast, or just cast in general, in anything than this. Haley Joel Osment as Sora, Hayden Panettiere as Kairi, David Gallagher as Riku. I mean, come on, these roles are perfectly cast. And they were still kids when they were doing these voices and they did a phenomenal job. And even the supporting cast like the new characters to the Final Fantasy characters and Disney characters. This cast is still absolutely perfect. And seeing all these different characters interacting with each other and working together, that's one thing that carries this game. And the many scenes that are fantastic here are absolutely incredible. Like everything that happens in Hollow Bastian, the ending, finding out Riku is falling to darkness, the journey. Just everything you can imagine is fantastic here. The writing and dialogue is amazing here and how they managed to come up with this imaginative a story back then really amazes me. It's awesome. And do I even have to mention the two scenes that really stick out to me. Yeah, I've already talked about it so much. The scene where Sora gives his speech about his friends and his heart and the scene where he sacrifices himself to save Kairi with that incredible music. And speaking of music. That's another fantastic thing here. the music in this entire game and game series is the best music I've ever heard in my life. I mean, it's just that amazing. So wow, I've said so many good things you all must think that I think that this game is perfect right? Well, as much as I hate to say it, there are a few problems. Some things in the game is a little confusing, especially when they have you require to know exactly what to do and where to go. Sometimes you can get lost on where to go or not. And, and this is probably the biggest one for me, but some of the worlds here are, well, I'm just going to say it, pretty bad. Like Wonderland where you can easily lose track of where to go, or Atlantica where you're basically a fish and the mechanics are really bad, but the worst one is easily the Deep Jungle. This world has gotten so much hate from everyone. And the biggest problem is the platforming. That's probably what Kingdom Hearts is most likely known for. Having bad platforming and the platforming here is pretty bad. Especially the whole hippo thing. Also, some of the bosses are a little unfair like Trick Master, Ursula and Clayton. Besides that though, this game is almost flawless for me. It's also a lot of fun going around fight really uniquely designed Heartless and levelling up to get even stronger. And that ending always gets me where Sora decides not to go back home so he can find Riku and King Mickey
And so yeah, in the end, this is a amazing game and one of the best I've ever played. If you haven't played this game yet, or any of the Kingdom Hearts games, I highly, highly recommend you do. Kingdom Hearts 2 introduced a brand new mechanic for that game that everyone loved, the Drive Forms. This allowed Sora to use a member to change his clothes and make him stronger. And with some more Drive Forms about to be introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3 as seen in some more pictures, I thought it would be cool to count down my top 5 favourites. So, let's start.
5. Wisdom Form:
The Drive Form you get after you after you finish Disney Castle, in this Form, Donald disappears and you wear blue clothes and you use a command called shoot where you shoot these energy blast from the Keyblade and another thing that's great about this is that not only can you kinda glide skate on the ground, but you can also use magic better and you can do it faster and on the move. That was so useful on several occasions.
4. Valor Form:
The very first Drive you get, here Goofy disappears and you clothes turn red and not only are you stronger and faster than before, but you can do really cool combos more and longer and more effectively, especially when you're fighting the first few bosses you do like Shan Yu and a few others. It's great to use these attacks a lot.
3. Master Form:
With this Form, you get it after you talk with King Mickey in Hollow Bastian before you go to Space Paranoids again. And it's like Valor in the sense that it's kinda similar in power and look. When using this one, both of your party members are gone and you use these yellow clothes and you attack with this strong powers like drawing a bunch of enemies together and then blasting them back, which was awesome and it was especially cool in the second time you had to go to all the worlds and you used it and when you did, the grinding was better and easier a little.
2. Limit Form:
This is a Form you get after you found out Kairi was captured by Axel in Twilight Town and it's kinda paying homage to the first game because it looks just like Sora's first clothes in the first game. And this was so incredibly helpful so many times. This was only in 2.5. You don't have to sacrifice anyone to use this and it's so strong and it was cool to use it in the 1000 Heartless fight where you can just tear through them with ease. And it was especially fantastic in the boss fights like Sephiroth where you can just press a button and you go into it and your health would go back and some with the MP and it would go back to normal and you could use your special moves to just destroy the enemies. That was so amazing.
And my number 1 favourite Drive Form is... Final Form: Was there any doubt. This is the big one. It's kinda hard to explain how you get this Form because after the part with Roxas in the World That Never Was, you can use any Drive Form and it would just happen but you never know how when it will happen. It could be the first one you use or you have to do a it a lot until it comes up. But once you do, the result is incredible. Sora floats in the air with his Keyblades floating behind him and you use monstrous attacks on the enemies and you go through them like nothing. And also, the only way to level this one up is by fighting a bunch of Nobodies. And I always found the best combo of Keyblades to use when using this Form is either the Oblivion with the Oathkeeper or the Fenrir with the Oblivion. And in my opinion, the best place to grind for this Form is going to the World That Never Was and starting at the bottom of the castle and fighting Nobodies to the very top a few times and that's what I think the best way is. And everyone, those are my top Drive Forms in Kingdom Hearts and hopefully the ones we'll get in Kingdom Hearts 3 will be even better.
