So, everyone, we've made it to the newest DC.E.U movie and James Gunn's newest film, The Suicide Squad. I remember seeing the trailers for this and thinking that this could be a really fun time. I can't exactly remember them getting me super excited for the film, I only really getting really excited as the release date was getting closer and I was able to see it on the 2nd of August. And, I'm so happy to say that I loved this film. It's easily my favourite DC.E.U movie and is the one I had the most fun with while watching. The main thing I loved was James Gunn's style. If you've seen any of his films, especially the two Guardians Of The Galaxy movies, you can see his style very easily. And, just experiencing his vision on here like this was so much fun for me. Also, like always, I'll go no spoilers for the first part and then all the spoilers afterwards. So, what's the story? We're featured some new and old characters from the first Suicide Squad movie and Amada Waller is tasking Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba, Peacemaker, played by John Cena and some other characters on a mission while still threatening to kill them if they disobey orders. So, immediately, the thing I loved the most about this was the cast and comedy. It's a James Gunn movie, so obviously this film is absolutely hilarious. There are so many laugh out loud moments and some jokes that I didn't even expect would be in this. And the cast is pretty much perfect. The two that I loved the most were Idris Elba as Bloodsport and John Cena as Peacemaker. They're both perfect as these characters and they play off each other really well. But the rest are great too, especially Sylvester Stallone as King Shark who's probably the most likeable character in the whole movie. It was also great to see Margot Robbie return as Harley Quinn and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. I thought they were both really good in the first film and they do great here too. I mentioned to a friend of mine that I feel like King Shark was like an R-Rated version of Groot or something. And on that note, yeah, this film is Rated R and it's insanely effective. There's so many brutal and gruesome moments in this and I loved it. And, on that, the action is really cool. James Gunn directed all the action really well and it's kinda ridiculous but in a fun way that makes it really entertaining to watch. And, on that, easily my favourite moment in the whole movie is during a part in a jungle with Bloodsport and Peacemaker competing against each other. It was hilarious, brutal and fantastically directed. And the action all around is great. Beyond the brutality of it, it's well directed and edited and choreographed. I will admit, not that much is very memorable aside from some moments, but it's still really fun to watch. Speaking of which, the opening in this surprised me a lot. I won't spoil it, but what they do really took me off guard. Really, this is film just had the perfect tone for these characters and this premise. James Gunn knew exactly how to balance all these things to make the experience as fun as possible. This is exactly how to portray these characters and it was exploited to the fullest in the best possible way. The effects are also really good. Characters like King Shark look flawless and another character who appears at the end. The ending also just gets so crazy and bonkers towards the end but it's done so well and is a super fun climax. There were also some cameos in this I didn't expect to see at all and it was cool to see them. I'll get into that in the spoilers, but there's one person in particular that was so cool to see. I was also surprised by the twists in this. There aren't that many, but the ones that are there are pretty surprising. The film's also just looks fantastic with the cinematography and the colours. Really, this was just such a fun time for me and I'm so glad I did see this. I do have some problems with the film. The first is that some of the actual character stuff didn't really do it for me. There are times when they try to do character arcs for some characters and I didn't really like that stuff all that much, especially with Bloodsport. I will admit, this is the one thing I think the first film did do better than this. In the first film, Deadshot had a character arc with his daughter and they do the same here but I think the first film did it a bit better. It wasn't awful, it was just not that interesting, especially since they didn't really focus on it for that much of the film. The other problem is a scene with Harley. It's basically meant to be a joke at the end and it was really funny when it was revealed, but I personally didn't like what was happening to build up to that moment. But, that's about it. Overall, I absolutely loved The Suicide Squad. It was hilarious, insane, bloody and one of the most fun experiences I've had with a movie in a long time. I'm so glad they were able to get James Gunn to do this and he did a fantastic job. So, yeah, I would highly recommend this. Even if you're not interested in watching the DC.E.U, I would still say to check this out because there's some really amazing things in this. I just really loved this film and I can't wait to see it again. And so, everyone, that's my review for The Suicide Squad. Spoilers:
Okay, so the first big spoiler I can think of for this is that jungle scene that I mentioned was my favourite part in the film and it's when Bloodsport and Peacemaker were completing to see who could do the best kill with these people. That part was amazing and funny and really graphic. But then the reveal that they actually killed a whole bunch of freedom fighters after they saved Rick Flag was hilarious. And, as for the opening of this, I was surprised when the first group they had at the beginning all just died except for Harley and Flag. It was brutal and surprising that a lot of them died in the first five minutes, especially Captain Boomerang. I thought he was gonna be in this all the way but the fact that he just died in those first five minutes was a big shock to me. And, as far as the cameos I was talking about, the biggest one I was talking about was Taika Waititi being Ratcatcher's dad. I was really surprised when I saw him but also glad. It was so cool to see him. Speaking of Ratcatcher, I thought she was pretty good in this and I thought Daniela Melchior did a really good job as her and she did have some nice moments, especially with King Shark. I also thought it was cool when it was revealed that Starro was the villain. I know we already knew that from the trailer, but it was so cool when it was revealed. I also found the twist about the American government also being responsible for Starro being brought to Earth surprising. And, the biggest shock to me in this was when Peacemaker turned on Flag. I know he did it so there wouldn't be any chaos in America, but it was still surprising to see him and Rick fight and then see him kill Rick. That was kinda emotional and I feel like it made Rick a bit more likeable and sympathetic. Also, the one part with Harley that I didn't like that much was the part with that an who wanted to marry her. Again, yes, it did have a funny conclusion with her shooting him, but the whole segment leading up to that wasn't something I was a fan of. Though, again, the end to it was really funny. I also felt the end climax was pretty cool with the Squad defying Amada's orders and trying to stop Starro. That was pretty cool and, like I said, I felt the end climax was really insane with all of them trying to kill him. I also didn't expect to see Polka-Dot Man die but it was kinda funny in weird way that also made me feel kinda bad for him. And, I like how at the end, Ratcatcher basically has to use all her rats to kill Starro from the inside. It was also sweet at the end when Bloodsport and Harley had that small moment at the end talking about Flag. Speaking of which, that part with Bloodsport shooting Peacemaker was really cool and kinda nice considering he mainly did it to save Ratcatcher. The end credit scene were cool and funny too with Peacemaker revealed to be alive and in the hospital and then we're shown that Weasel is still alive too from the opening. And, yeah, overall, again, I just had a blast with this movie and it was so much fun. I'm honestly a bit surprised by how good this was, but, then again, it was made by James Gunn, so I really shouldn't be. It was just everything I wanted it to be and so much more. And, so, yeah, again, I just feel like this is a movie you should definitely see. Even if you have seen it already, I still think you should see it again. I'm already hoping to see it again really soon. And so, everyone, that's my review of The Suicide Squad. Thank you all for reading and please comment down below to tell me what you think.
