Also, to draw the symbol, Ed had to give up his right arm. Anyway, so they both then go to their friend's house, named Winry Rockbell, who's around their age, and Pinako Rockbell, an old lady, and both of them make metal a metal arm and leg for Ed. Then both Ed and Al read some books about an object called the Philosopher Stone which they believe will help them get their bodies back. They're both then recruited into the government and after some training and an exam, Ed is promoted to the title, Fullmetal Alchemist. And now the both of them are serving the country for the government while trying to get their bodies back. And also the main villain are creatures named Homunculi. 7 creatures who are all named after the 7 deadly sins. Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Pride, Wrath, (who by the way is pretending to be a good guy and is the King of their country using the name King Bradley), Greed and Sloth. And the main villain is someone the Homunculi call "Father." Sorry for making that really long but I figured I should tell you the main back round so you can get the big picture. And now here I'm going to tell you all my 10 favourite episodes from it like I did with my top 10 Naruto and Sonic X episode lists.
10. Fullmetal Alchemist: The very first episode in the show introduces us into this world pretty well. It starts off with a man drawing a Transmutation Circle to try and use it all of Central. But then Ed and Al show up and stop him but him but then he escapes and later he returns to finish it and do his alchemy to freeze the whole place. Ed and Al, along with their other friends from the military like Colonel Roy Mustang, Major Armstrong and others like Riza Hawkeye and King Bradley manage to stop him and Bradley kills him. It's pretty cool seeing all this stuff for the first time in the show. And it does do well at introducing us to this world for it just being 22 minutes long. And it's also really funny. It turns out Ed is actually small and he hates being called small so when the man they're fighting calls him small, he goes crazy. And it's also funny when Hughes called Al the Fullmetal Alchemist when it's really Ed who's the Fullmetal Alchemist. The reason is because a lot of people think that because since Al is the armour, he'd get that title. That's a joke that runs through the first few episodes of the show and it always works especially when they're shocked to see that it's just a small 15 year old.
9. Created Feelings: After visiting a place called the Fifth Laboratory, Ed and Al discover 2 creatures like Al with their souls bonded to suits of armour. Ed is inside the lab fighting one and Al's outside fighting another called Barry the Chopper. While he's fighting Barry, he begins to mess with him and asks if he was even really a real person and not a fake creation made by Ed. As it keeps going, Al begins to think about it and begins to think maybe he's right and that Ed might have lied to him and made him up and made up his memories. Especially since before they left to go there, Ed was about to tell him something but before he could, they were told about it and they had to leave before he could finish his sentence. I'd say what I do like here, is that, even though you do kinda know what's going to happen, especially because of a previous episode, it does kinda keep you guessing on what exactly is happening with these things going on. It's also cool when it cuts back and forth with both Ed and Al's fights. Even Ed gets his share on the talking with his opponent saying things messing with him too. And even the how the armoured guy fighting Ed manages to get to him with words is almost kinda cryptic if you ask me and it's creepy how in the last minute, Lust just kill him before he can finished talking to Ed
8. Separated destinations: Following the last episode, Ed is in the Hospital and Al is wandering around it thinking more about what Barry said about him maybe not being real which makes him get scared. Winry also then arrives and when she comes in to talk to Ed, Al yells at him about him not being real and then Ed leaves and Winry yells at Al for that saying that he's wrong and that Ed was just trying to ask him if he was angry at him for putting him in the suit. I put this episode here because it's really sympathetic with Al feeling betrayed that Ed would do that. I mean, we know that he's wrong and that h is real but you feel sorry for him because he doesn't fully understand it and, call me crazy, but I almost think that's kinda identifiable with feeling this way slightly. There's not much I can say for this. I just feel like it deserves to be here.
7. Ice Queen: In this episode we meet, Olivier Armstrong. Major Armstrong's sister who's the leader of a team of fighter who works in a base in a snowy mountain called Brigs. And she always acts tough. It's almost kinda fun to watch her doing what she's doing to Ed and Al to get some info out of them. But before they can, another Homunculus called Sloth attacks the base and everyone tries their best to fight him off. I'd say what I like the most is actually watching them getting to work because Olivier is doing everything she can to get the 2 of them to say something about what they're really doing there. But on top of that, the fight scene with everyone in the base and Ed and Al against Sloth is also great to see. Even though the fight isn't really that long it's still a lot of fun, especially the end of the fight when they're about to knock him out of it. But outside of that, it's still a good episode introducing us to new characters who'll play a major part in the end of the show.
6. Sacrifices: In this episode we learn the Father's plan. To use 5 sacrifices to drain they're power to multiply his power and spread an alchemy move around the whole country to sacrifice everyone's soul to make a powerful Philosopher Stone and use it to steal the powers of God. Yeah that's pretty scary. Just the thought that some guy wants to steal God's power. Though it's not as creepy as in the last few episodes of the show when it kinda happens. I think what I just said explains why I like this episode. The thought of a creature trying to kill everyone to open a gate to Heaven and try to claim the powers of God. That's almost kinda nerve wrecking with just the idea like that. On top of that, when Ed and Al try to fight him, for some reason whenever they try to attack him, it doesn't hit him at all. We don't know yet so it's pretty cool.
5. The Dwarf in the Flask: Here, we get some backstory on Ed and Al's dad named Hohenheim, who actually left them when they were boys and when their mother died, he never came to the funeral, so Ed thinks he doesn't care about them. But he does and here it explains that he's actually centuries years old and he was originally a slave and he came across a round black creature in a round glass container and he said that if he did what he told him to do, he would help him and make him immortal. So he did but it turns out he killed everyone in the town he lived in and he made a human form for himself by making himself look like Hohenheim. And he also did do what he offered and made Hohenheim immortal. And when he was older, he got married to a woman named Trisha and they had Ed and Al. To see all the questions about Hohenheim finally be answered is actually a relief because through the whole show up to this point, it's never really been answered to us about what's been going on with this man and what's been going on with him. And when we do finally understand why he's like this and why he left, we do actually feel sympathy for him. It also nice to see that we actually get answers and a backstory on some character in the show because I don't really think there's been must backstory on any other character up until that point except for Ed and Al.
4. Eye of Heaven, Gateway of Earth: From this to number 1, each of the following episodes are each ones that come next. What I mean is that the next episode came after this and after that and after that, if you know what I mean. Anyway, here we see Father uses his powers to bring Ed, Al, May, Izumi, who was Ed and Al's alchemy teacher, and Mustang to where he is so he can start his plans. By the way, the reason he brought those 5 there is because each of them tried to use alchemy to bring someone back to life so they were "sacrifices" for him which is what he was planning this whole time. He drains them of a lot of their life force and from that he begins to spread it across the whole country and from that we get a creepy but awesome scene where a ginormous gate like thing appears over the whole country and when it opens, it's heaven and Father begins to literally swallow God and absorb his power. And he's also turned into a monster. If you've seen this episode, then you know that, even though you don't like what he's doing, you still think that this is awesome stuff. Especially with the animation and imagery. Watch this.
3. He who would swallow God: Following the events of the last episode, Ed, Al, May, Izumi and Hohenheim get up to fight father who know looks different and can do anything. And when they try to attack him, we finally see why it never worked originally because he can control alchemy with his mind and create shields to protect himself. And eventually they do something that causes all the souls he took to be returned and he slightly loses power and Ed even manage to defeat Pride and Scar defeats Wrath. Watch
2. The Other Side of the Gateway: Continuing the fight with everyone against Father, he keeps blocking everything and it gets to a point where he uses a move to knock everyone down. He also blows Ed's metal arm up and he gets his other arm impaled in metal bars connected to a piece of concrete. And the rest... well, watch.
And my number 1 favourite Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood episode is... Journey's End: Yeah, my list began with the first episode and it's ending with the last episode. After defeating the Father character and getting their bodies back, Ed, Al and everyone else make way in life and decide to move on with their lives. Mustang gets promoted. Olivier goes back to the snowy mountain base and Al decides to travel the world with his 2 new friends. Ed as well gets married to Winry and he leaves to go somewhere. I think the best part of this is for the fact that I feel that by the end when everything wraps up, it just feels right. When you see everyone doing what they're doing, you just go, "Yeah, you know what, this is good place to stop. Everyone seems happy. Everyone seems in the right place." And during the credits we see everyone doing what they're doing through photos. Look.
It's also good to see that, even though this is the last episode, it does know that and it does do it's best to tell a good story for the episode and get through everyone as soon as possible and it does manage to add in some comedy as well. And even if people don't agree with me on this, I still stand by how this is the best out of all the episodes in the show. And like I said, it's just a good and happy ending with some really cool stuff happening in it. And if you're a fan of it, I'd like to know what your favourites are so comment and tell me, I'd like to know if you like the show or not.
