So, my last entry was about me talking about my favourite action scenes from Phase 1 of the M.C.U. And, this post will be continuing that with me talking about my favourites from Phase 2. Given how Phase 2 was leaning towards a lot more crazier things, it could get away with a lot of bizarre things that they did really well because they knew how to handle it the right way. It also gave fans a lot of things we've wanted to see for a long time. Anyway, let's begin and I hope you all like this.
5. Dockyard fight (Iron Man 3):
Starting us off at number 5 is the climatic fight from Iron Man 3. After Tony and Rhodey discover Killian is keeping Pepper and the president at a dockyard, they go there where they find a whole bunch of Killian's minions so Tony calls in the Iron Legion to help take care of them. Not only is there phenomenal action in this scene, but it's also just awesome to see so many Iron Man suits at once fighting. We also get to scene funny moments too like when Tony isn't able to give Rhodey a suit or when Tony's about to hop inside a suit but then it gets destroyed so he has to keep running. And the the C.G.I is so impressive with having so many suits and making them all look so real. It's also cool when Tony goes up against Killian himself with both punching each other and Tony going from suit to suit after Killian keeps destroying them.
4. Prison escape (Guardians Of The Galaxy):
Next up is the amazing escape from prison scene from the first Guardians movie. In terms of escape from prison scenes in movies, this might be my favourite because there's a lot of amazing moments. It starts off with Rocket making a plan with Peter and Gamora and then but then Groot begins the plan by himself which causes all of them to start moving really fast like Gamora having to get a wristband from a guard or Rocket tricking Peter into getting a prosthetic leg from a prisoner, which is already hilarious when it's revealed to be a lie, and Rocket and Groot fighting those robots. It's made even cooler when Drax helps them by throwing Rocket a gun and both him and Groot just go crazy with blasting them all. But, again, it keeps going to where they all climb up Groot to the watchtower and get inside, and, despite it being the beginning of the film, is so cool and epic with the shot of all of them. Then it moves into a great scene when they're inside with them having a hilarious argument while Rocket is trying to get them out of there. The whole scene is brilliant and so awesome. The C.G.I is phenomenal through the whole scene and it's paced perfectly with amazing moments from beginning to the end.
3. Guardians Of The Galaxy vs. Ronan (Guardians Of The Galaxy):
This fight in like what I was saying with this Phase doing a lot of craziness and it working well. I really, really like this final battle on Xandar with the Guardians teaming up with the Ravagers and the Xandarians against Ronan and his army. It may seems like every generic space battle we see everywhere nowadays, but James Gunn did a really great job with knowing how to direct it to the point where it feels unique and new. Not to mention the fact that it's funny and there's a lot of epic moments like when the Guardians kill Ronan with the Power Stone. There's even some really emotional moments like when Groot sacrifices himself to save the other Guardians. We all know this wasn't the end of him, but still.
2. Hulkbuster vs. Hulk (Avengers: Age Of Ultron):
Coming in close to number 1 is the fight on this that's like what I said in the opening with giving fans what we wanted because this was the fight that was being built up so much in the advertising for this movie that everyone was really excited for. Fans had been wanting to see for so long a live action version of the Hulkbuster armour and it was really awesome. Unlike some other strong monster fights, this one was really cool with Tony trying to stop Hulk's rampage after Wanda uses her powers on him. It's not only great to see them punch each other over and over, but we also see Tony trying to keep the civilians safe in the process. And there's great humour in it too like when Tony keeps punching Hulk hoping he'll go to sleep or him saying sorry after punching him so hard that his tooth comes out.
And my number 1 favourite fight scene in the M.C.U Phase 2 is... Cap vs. The Winter Solider (Captain America: The Winter Solider):
And finally at number 1 is the highway fight in the Winter Solider. In terms of the M.C.U movies, this is probably the most grounded and realistic. This is also the part of the movie where I think a lot of people began to see what the Russo brothers could really do in regards to directing action scenes. The part on the boat the beginning was great, but this is where the action was stepped up considerably. We get a great shootout scene with Cap, Sam and Natasha against Bucky and some other Hydra agents, but it's all the best when Cap goes up against Bucky himself and we get an amazing hand-to-hand fight scene with a knife like them constantly blocking each other's attacks and Bucky trying to kill him with the knife and Steve doing all these amazing moves to try to beat him himself. Not only is the choreography incredible here, but it's also amazingly directed with the camerawork. This is a great example of where fast cuts and quick editing is done right. Unlike other movies where action like that can give people a headache, here, it's done perfectly where you can see everything and follow what's happening and be really invested as a result. Overall, this fight shows incredible action, fantastic camerawork and phenomenal choreography. And all that is why Cap vs. The Winter Soldier is my favourite M.C.U Phase 2 fight scene.
