My top 5 tragic backstories in One Piece

Like a ton of anime and manga, the characters in them suffer from a super tragic backstory that can still haunt them even as the years go by. And One Piece is no exception. Almost everyone of the good guys have suffered from a traumatic past. And so, sorta stepping away from my paintings for an entry, I decided to list my top 5 tragic backstories from One Piece. Yes, there are other anime with characters with sad backstories, and I might do ones for those some day, but, for now, I'm doing the ones for One Piece. And so, let's get started and I hope you all like these.
5. Robin:

Starting us off is the past of Nico Robin. We don't know anything about her dad, but her mother left the island of Ohara when she was still a baby and left her with her aunt and uncle who treated her poorly. This also led to Robin eating a Devil Fruit at some point and this caused the other kids around her to hate her and pick on her. But Robin spent most of her time reading and going to the library there, gaining knowledge of the world. This all changed when she met a giant named Saul who washed up on the island. They became friends until Robin told him where he was and Saul knew that the government was coming to destroy the island due to the archaeologists there doing illegal research on the world. This led to her mom coming back and being killed in front of her as the island was being obliterated around her. But admiral Aokiji let her escape due to him feeling kinda bad about Saul being killed, but told her that if she caused any trouble, he'd be the first to go after her and kill her. But, the government knowing about Robin still being alive made them place a bounty on her head and making everyone think she was dangerous. This led to her going on the run for 20 years and being betrayed everywhere she went.
4. Franky:

The Straw Hat's cyborg shipwright Franky has had a bit of a funny, but mostly devastating past. Being thrown overboard by his parents at a young age, Franky ended up being saved by a man named Tom in Water 7. There, he met Iceberg and the two of them became apprentices of Tom. That is until the world government decided to trial Tom for creating the ship belonging to Gold Roger. He and Iceberg worked together with Tom to then construct the sea train, which Tom said he'd make in exchange for being pardoned. All the while, Franky was constructing his series of miniature battleships called the Battle Franky series. Once the sea train was completed, their lives took a turn for the worst when Spandam stole the Battle Franky series and used them to frame Tom, Franky and Iceberg and made everyone in Water 7 think they were trying to kill everyone there. This was all a plot for Spandam to acquire the blueprints to the ancient weapon "Pluton." Franky even tried to stop this and attacked Spandam, but this only made Tom stop him and he told Franky one last think before being taken away. But this didn't stop Franky who decided to stand on the track of the train and try to stop it, which went about as well as you'd expect. This not only destroyed Franky's body, but changed his character from that day onward.
3. Sanji:

When it comes to the Straw Hats having families, Sanji's is by far the worst. Having a loving mother who died when he was still a child, he had arguably one of the worst anime dads ever with Judge Vinsmoke who, because Sanji hadn't inherited his drug when he was born, decided to lock Sanji in a dungeon and decided he would rather have Sanji die than be part of his family. This is until a massive attack broke out in which Sanji was able to escape. Mainly due to his sister helping him. This led to Sanji sneaking onto a ship and learning about the All Blue, which he decided he would find.
2. Brook:

Coming in close to number 1 is the musician for the Straw Hats. While this skeleton might seem like one of the funnier members of the crew, his past is honestly pretty heartbreaking. While still technically alive, he was with the Rumbar who were all musicians. And they met a baby whale one day who began to follow them until they entered the Grand Line where they tried to make him stop following them because they knew it would be too dangerous. They did eventually manage to get him to stay and they promised to come back some day. This would be hard for them though as the captain of their ship caught a disease that a few of them began to catch. This then led to them splitting up with the infected staying and dying and the rest, now led by Brook, to keep going. Brook himself became the captain of the new group and ate the Soul-Soul fruit at some point. That changed again though when they were attacked and a lot of them were either dead or waiting to die with the enemy's weapons having poison in them. The Rumbar pirates then began to make one last song together for Brook to deliver to Laboon, the whale, once he had been resurrected by the fruit. And then he had to watch as the crew all fell dead, one by one.

And the number 1 tragic backstory is One Piece is... Chopper:

And finally at number 1 is the doctor of the Straw Hats, Tony Tony Chopper. Definitely one of the most  tragic backstories in anime I've ever seen. As a reindeer, Chopper was born with a blue nose and was an outcast in his herd who would be violent with him. He also ate a Human-Human Devil Fruit which made him aware to being able to stand and talk like a person. This also made him an outcast to people as well. This led to him being a lonely character who was hated by everyone he met. That is until a doctor named Dr. Hiuluk found him and befriended him. He helped inspire Chopper to be a doctor as well as understand what a friend was. That is until Hiuluk was about to die of a sickness that was incurable, but Chopper, after thinking a skull and crossbones in a book was similar to a pirate flag which Hiuluk showed him and told him was a symbol of strength, showed a mushroom that he thought would help heal him. This caused Chopper to fight the reindeer who kicked him out as the mushroom was somewhere beyond their territory. Chopper did win, but he was beaten and horribly and almost killed. And even though Hiuluk knew the mushroom was poisonous, he was so touched by Chopper risking his life to save his that he ate it. But then Dr. Kureha told Chopper about what the mushroom really was which devastated him and he tried to save Hiuluk but then he committed suicide by blowing himself up in front of the Drum Kingdom castle. And all this was happening when Chopper was still technically just a child and he had to go through all this trauma. It's impossible not to feel sorry for this poor reindeer every step of the way as we learn more about his past. And all that is why I think Chopper has the most tragic backstory in One Piece. And so, everyone, those are my top 5 most tragic backstories in One Piece. Thank you all for reading and please comment down below to tell me what you think, and if you like One Piece, please comment to tell me who you think has the most tragic past.
