Encanto

And so, everyone, we've gotten to the newest Disney Classic, Encanto. Honestly, while I was definitely excited to see this as per usual with me and this stuff, the marketing didn't exactly get me psyched for this entirely. But, regardless, it is still a new Disney Classic and that's plenty enough reason for me to be excited and it did actually feel good to see one in the cinemas since Frozen 2 considering I had to watch Raya And The Last Dragon on Disney+. And so, what did I eventually think of it? While I wouldn't say I necessarily loved it, I still really enjoyed it and there were parts of it I did absolutely love. And, again, like always, I'll be going no spoilers first and then go into all the spoilers with a warning. So, what's the story? A family in Columbia called the Madrigals each have some power given to them thanks to a miracle candle. All of them except one, a girl named Mirabel. She's clearly upset that she's the only one out of her entire family that doesn't but she still tries to live with it. They also live in a house that's completely magical and it's like the house is alive. However, after getting feelings that something's wrong, Mirabel decides to investigate what it is and learns more about her family. And I'm gonna stop there. So, immediately, the first thing to always talk about these Disney films is clearly the animation which is still animation perfection, as to be expected with Disney. But this really is a gorgeous film. Not just gorgeous from the animation itself, but also insanely colourful. One of Mirabel's sisters in particular has the ability to make flowers appears and it's really colourful. The characters as well are so well realised. I really liked everyone like Mirabel and her sisters, but I think Luisa was my favourite, one of Mirabel's sisters whose power is super strength. She was super likeable and really funny. Speaking of, yeah, the movie is really funny. There's tons of jokes and a lot of them really made me laugh, especially anything with Luisa. There's one scene in particular with Mirabel and one of her sisters in particular that really made me laugh. I also like how there's basically one location in the whole film. It's pretty clever because, since the house they live in is so gigantic, they can go to different locations in it and it's really fun to explore it and learn of this family's history with it. And, the fact that it all only takes place in just one place throughout the whole movie is really unique. It also makes it fun to watch considering the house is almost like it's alive and so it's almost like a character of its own and it's fun watching the characters interact with it. Also, this is kind of a weird point to make, but something I noticed before seeing the film is that this actually reminded me of My Hero Academia and Black Clover a bit because the premise is centered around a character surrounded by magical people and they don't have any magic power themselves. Kinda weird, but it's just something I noticed. Anyway, something else that's great here is the songs. I was kinda surprised that this was actually a musical, though I guess I probably shoulda known that. But, yeah, the songs here are great. They were done by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the same guy who did the songs for Moana, one of my favourite Disney musicals ever, and, yeah, he does an amazing job here. Personally, I didn't find every song that memorable, but the majority of them are really catchy and some were pretty funny too, especially Luisa's one. I also enjoyed the actual dynamic between the family. Not just those funny moments I mentioned, but also the relationships between everyone was mostly nice and there are some things that happen with them, especially towards the end, that I didn't expect. Probably my favourite relationship was with Mirabel and a boy name Antonio. I really liked their scenes, especially early on in the film. There's also a twist in this towards the middle of the movie that I also didn't expect and it does have some nice moments with that too. There's also a few emotional moments in this that I thought were handled pretty well, especially one regarding a character from that twist I mentioned and it led to some pretty sad moments. Really, this just feels like Disney getting on track again and they still got the talent of making really great animated films, which they had already proved this year with Raya And The Last Dragon, but this feels like it's continuing that trend. As far as if I have any problems, I guess my biggest issue would be the ending. It's kinda feels like it comes outta nowhere and wraps everything up a bit too well. There's something that happens and I don't entirely get it. It just felt like a deus ex machina. It's not a major issue, just a small thing that bothered me a little bit. But, really, that's about it. I really liked this film and I'm so glad to have been able to see another Disney Classic in the cinemas again since the pandemic. And, really, the first one since Moana that I can really say was really good, again, I did see Raya on Disney+, so that doesn't count, but this was just such a treat see in the theatres again and I'm really glad it was as good as it was. So, yeah, I'm obviously recommending this. I'm really excited to see it again myself. So, yeah, everyone, that's my review for Encanto. Thank you all for reading and please comment down below to tell me what you think. Okay, now we're getting into the spoilers. If you don't want this film spoiled, go and see the film and then read the rest of this.

Spoilers:

Okay, so, there's not really that much to spoil about this, but there are some things I wanna discuss. First, that whole Bruno character part of the story was pretty interesting. That part of when he was introduced was actually a little scary with him being in hooded and in the dark and I was honestly expecting him to be the villain, but I was pretty surprised to find he wasn't and the whole thing with him sorta being exiled from the family and being inside the walls of the house was that emotional aspect I mentioned. Especially when we see he's been looking through into the family to feel like he was joining them was pretty sad too. I did also like when he and Mirabel find out she may have to hug Isabela to fix the magic. That led to some really funny moments. And I was sort surprised when that didn't exactly work and then the house just comes down from the magic being lost. And the whole thing with Mirabel and Abuela at the lake was also pretty sad too. Now, probably the biggest spoiler, which is also that thing I didn't like was the ending. I don't know if they explain it but the whole thing with Mirabel somehow fixing the house was kinda weird. Like I said, it just felt like a deus ex machina that kinda came outta nowhere. But, it's not that big of an issue like I said and it did lead to a nice ending with all of them back together. And, really, that's about it. Really, like I said, I'm just really glad with how this turned out and I really, really loved a lot about this. And so, everyone, that's my review for Encanto. Thank you all for reading and please comment down below to tell me what you think.
