My top 10 favourite Marvel stories

So last year I counted down my top 5 Marvel graphic novels. And so, now, I'm going to count down my 10 favourite stories in Marvel's history. Mainly because I've been thinking about it for a while and after reading some more recently, I decided to do this. And this is going to be a lot different to other people's lists of their favourite Marvel stories or graphic novels because, yeah, people have different opinions on things like this. And so, let's begin and I hope you all enjoy.
10. Old Man Logan:

Starting us off is most famous Wolverine story and one of the most famous Marvel stories ever, Old Man Logan. The main inspiration for the Logan movie that came out this year, this story is one of the most depressing and heart-wrenching ever done. In the future, almost every hero is dead or in hiding and America is ruled by supervillains. Wolverine, after accidently murdering all the X-Men, is now an old man with a family in need of money. Agreeing to go with Hawkeye, who's now blind, to deliver a package, they have the most insane road trip ever. Filled with nonstop cursing and blood and gore everywhere, Old Man Logan is a staple as one of the greatest Marvel stories ever with plenty of mature themes and a Wolverine who's old and grizzled which make him less patient and more violent than ever before. And, while it may start kinda slow, you know you're going to get an insane Wolverine unleashed action scene eventually.
9. The Death of Gwen Stacy:

Moving from the most famous Wolverine ever, next up, is the most famous Spider-Man story ever. Easily the most iconic comic ever for changing comic books forever, this 1973 comic shocked readers all over the world. Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's first love. And many people woulda just expected the two of them to be a regular comic book couple. But, during a fight between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin on a bridge, Gwen is pushed off. When Spidey tries to catch her with his webbing, he accidently snaps her neck causing her to die. Traumatising so many people, this twist is what led to many comic books having twists like this for years to come.
8. Weapon X:

Going back to Wolverine, this 1991 is what finally explained Wolverine's powers. When Wolverine is kidnapped by a government organisation, they did countless tests on him and, in the end, they used his healing abilities to their advantage. He had already had retractable bone claws, but this organisation is what coated his entire skeleton in Adamantium. But, that doesn't mean it was easy. The process was beyond painful and, once they had done that, Dr. Cornelius, the man who was in charge of all this, brainwashed Wolverine to be monstrous, animal-like killing machine. But, Wolverine went crazy. He killed everyone there and escaped then beginning to wander the wilderness. This fantastic Barry Windsor-Smith story is what finally explained to readers everything they wanted to know about Wolverine's Adamantium claws and it did not disappoint.
7. X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills:

The inspiration for 2003's X-Men 2, this amazing graphic novel introduces William Stryker, a mutant hater who thinks mutants are an abomination that should never exist. So, in an attempt to kill every mutant on the planet, he kidnaps Professor X and gets him hooked up to a Cerebro he made himself. Learning this, the X-Men are forced to team up with Magneto in order to stop him. Chris Claremont is easily the best X-Men writer in my opinion, and he does a fantastic job of showing the real themes about this team with prejudice and segregation and showing the whole dilemma with how humans don't exactly all accept mutants or can even sometimes not even accept one another just because of prejudice.
6.  X-Men: Days of Future Past:

Yup, another X-Men story. Set literally right after the Dark Phoenix Saga story, this tale follows Kitty Pride as she goes back in time to warn the X-Men of the Sentinels. Ginormous mutant killing robots who have the world like a huge warzone. This warning will hopefully stop the Sentinels forever. Being kinda one of the earliest brutal Marvel stories, this story delivers it all. Suspense, action, time-travel and great storytelling. And, let me tell ya, it does not disappoint.

5. Daredevil: Born Again:

Probably the most famous Marvel story ever, this is one of Frank Miller's best pieces ever. When Kingpin discovers Matt Murdock is Daredevil, he immediately places all the odds in his favour. He destroys his law firm, bank accounts and reputation. When the two of them have a hand to hand fight, Kingpin beats Matt with just a threat of Matt's life left. Now Daredevil, who's nickname is literally "The Man Without Fear," is terrified off Kingpin. However, this causes him to make a return and shows just how much a superhero is willing to go to and shows that no matter what, he or she can get back up. From the ending of the Defenders, and from what we saw in Daredevil: Season 2 with Kingpin finding out Matt is Daredevil, it looks like Netflix is going to incorporate this story into Daredevil: Season 3.

4. X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga:

The final X-Men story on this list, this incredibly dark story touches on so many things that people can't sing it's praises enough. After a trip into space, Jean Grey is exposed to a solar flare that unlocks her powers from within, transforming her into the Phoenix. But, while it seems to help a small bit at the start, things go very bad very quick. The Hellfire Club twists her mind, transforming her into her evil personality, the Dark Phoenix that wants to do nothing to but destroy everything. It's a story that goes far and wide showing how insane this can really be.
3. Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt:

This 1987 J. M. DeMatteis story takes the Spider-Man villain, Kraven the Hunter, to incredibly dark places. Maybe my favourite Spider-Man story ever, this story focuses on when Spider-Man was still wearing the black suit and Kraven hunting down and "supposedly" shooting Spider-Man dead and burying him. Finally feeling satisfied and going crazy, Kraven dawns the black Spider-Man costume while Spider-Man digs himself out of his grave.

When going off to find Kraven and finally doing it, Spider-Man fights him, but, Kraven refuses to fight back believing himself to already be the winner.

Going even more crazy, Kraven commits suicide on himself by shooting himself in the head.

Turning a sorta silly character like Kraven from before into this coulda gone wrong, but, J. M. DeMatteis keeps it interesting and enthralling throughout the whole thing.
2. Infinity Gauntlet:

Coming in close to number 1 is a story I read recently that I loved. This 1991 Jim Starlin story brings so many characters together at once. When Thanos has all the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet, now determined to prove his love to Lady Death, the Marvel heroes must all band together in order to stop him. Filled with tons of characters and twist after twist, this story manages to bring in so much fun because of how many characters there are and every single action scene is incredible. I just really like it for how much for it is.
And my number 1 favourite Marvel story is... Civil War:

And finally at number 1 is the inspiration for the third Captain America movie last year and a much different story than many before. While all these other entries have had heroes against villains, this one is heroes vs. heroes. When a registration act is introduced for superheroes who must register themselves. While a team, led by Iron Man, supports it, another team, led by Captain America, apposes it. When they don't all agree on the matter, fists fly fast and hard. It's heroes against each other because of their different opinions. In my opinion, being probably the most interesting Marvel story I've ever read, this touches and captivates readers and they themselves feeling like they should choose a side. With amazing art from Steve McNiven and writing from Mark Millar, this story is filler with some of the best comic action ever, some pretty brutal imagery and really interesting topics this novel touches on. And so everyone, those are my picks for my top 10 favourite Marvel stories. Thank you all for reading and please comment down below to tell me what you think.
